How to Use?

  • Add GST: Enter the base price and select a rate (e.g., 18%). We'll add the tax to give you the total.
  • Remove GST: Choose "Remove GST", enter the final bill amount, and we'll calculate the original pre-tax price.
  • Intra vs Inter-state: Toggle between Intra-state (CGST + SGST) and Inter-state (IGST) - the breakdown updates instantly.
  • Multi-Item Bill: Use the table below the calculator to add multiple products with different rates and get a grand total.

Selling Across States? Use IGST

When buyer and seller are in different states, CGST + SGST is replaced by a single IGST (Integrated GST) charge. The full tax amount goes to the central government, and Input Tax Credit flows seamlessly across state lines.

Toggle to "Inter-state (IGST)" in our calculator to handle cross-state transactions. Common use cases: e-commerce sellers shipping nationwide, exporters, and service providers with clients in other states.

Formulas Used

Adding GST (Exclusive → Inclusive):

GST Amount = (Original Cost × GST%) / 100

Net Price = Original Cost + GST Amount

Removing GST (Inclusive → Exclusive):

Original Cost = Total Price / (1 + (GST% / 100))

GST Amount = Total Price - Original Cost

CGST / SGST Split (Intra-state):

CGST = GST Amount / 2  |  SGST = GST Amount / 2

Frequently Asked Questions

How to add GST to a price?

To add GST to a price, multiply the base amount by the GST percentage and divide by 100. Then add this GST amount to the base price. Formula: GST Amount = (Base Price × GST%) ÷ 100; Total = Base Price + GST Amount. Our calculator does this instantly - just enter the amount and select your rate.

How to remove GST from a total amount?

To remove GST (reverse calculation), divide the total inclusive amount by (1 + GST%/100). Formula: Base Price = Total ÷ (1 + GST%/100); GST Amount = Total − Base Price. Select 'Remove GST' mode in our calculator and enter the final bill amount.

What is CGST and SGST?

CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST) apply to intra-state transactions - when buyer and seller are in the same state. The total GST is split equally: half goes to the central government (CGST) and half to the state government (SGST). For example, 18% GST becomes 9% CGST + 9% SGST.

What is IGST and when is it used?

IGST (Integrated GST) applies to inter-state transactions - when the buyer and seller are in different states, or when importing goods. The entire GST amount goes to the central government as IGST. For example, if you sell goods from Maharashtra to Delhi with 18% GST, the full 18% is charged as IGST. Our calculator's 'Inter-state' toggle handles this automatically.

What are the new GST 2.0 rates effective September 2025?

Under GST 2.0, effective September 22, 2025, the GST Council overhauled the rate structure. The new slabs are: 0% (essentials like food, healthcare), 5% (basic goods, packaged food, medicines), 18% (most services, electronics, IT, telecom), and 40% (luxury goods, tobacco, aerated drinks, casinos). The old 12% and 28% slabs have been abolished under the new structure.

What GST rate applies to services in India?

Most services in India under GST 2.0 are taxed at 18%, including IT services, telecom, consulting, banking, insurance (excluding life insurance), and AC restaurants. Some services like healthcare and educational services remain at 0%. Certain financial services and insurance may have specific rates - always verify the HSN/SAC code for your specific service.

Do freelancers need to pay GST in India?

Yes, if a freelancer's annual turnover exceeds ₹20 lakh (₹10 lakh for special category states), GST registration is mandatory. The applicable rate for most freelance services (consulting, software, design) is 18% under IGST for international clients or CGST+SGST for domestic clients. Freelancers earning below the threshold can register voluntarily. Our calculator helps you quickly determine the GST amount to charge on your invoices.

What is reverse charge mechanism (RCM) under GST?

Under the Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM), the liability to pay GST shifts from the supplier to the recipient of goods or services. RCM applies in specific scenarios: purchases from unregistered dealers (above threshold), import of services, and specific notified goods/services. The buyer must self-assess and pay the GST directly to the government, not to the supplier.

How is GST calculated on a multi-item invoice?

On a multi-item invoice, GST is calculated separately for each line item based on its applicable rate and transaction type. The total GST is the sum of individual item taxes. Our Bill Calculator lets you add multiple items with different GST rates and transaction types (intra/inter-state), automatically computing CGST, SGST, IGST, and a grand total.

What is the difference between GST inclusive and exclusive pricing?

GST-exclusive pricing (also called 'Add GST' mode) means the listed price does not include tax - GST is added on top. GST-inclusive pricing means the listed price already includes GST, and you need to extract the base price. Use 'Add GST' when quoting prices to clients, and 'Remove GST' to find the pre-tax cost from a GST-inclusive MRP.
